Matt Corral addresses future after Panthers draft Bryce Young

It sounds like quarterback Matt Corral wants to remain with the Carolina Panthers even if he has a limited future with the organization.

"If it was up to me, I don't want to get traded," Corral told reporters during organized team activities, per Grant Gordon of the NFL's website. "I love the people here, I love the people that I'm around. I wanna play for (head coach Frank Reich). I really like the coaches that we have around us."

Corral joined the Panthers via a third-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft but became somewhat of an afterthought after Carolina traded with the Cleveland Browns for Baker Mayfield last summer. The 24-year-old ultimately sat through his rookie campaign due to a Lisfranc injury he suffered during the preseason, and he was a spectator when the club dismissed Matt Rhule as head coach in October.

Carolina hired Reich as Rhule's replacement this winter, and Reich presumably was all-in on the club selecting quarterback Bryce Young with the No. 1 pick in this year's draft. As Gordon mentioned, Corral posted on social media during the player-selection process that one shouldn't "stay in a place where no one sees your value."

Corral more recently indicated he still feels valued in Carolina.

"It's all about controlling what you can control," Corral explained about his mindset. "And honestly, that's what's made me happy. Getting another opportunity to be here and play for the Carolina Panthers, I'm blessed. ... I'm in it for the long haul. When that opportunity comes, I'll be ready."

NFL insider Mike Giardi tweeted in March that the Panthers "would be willing to" trade Corral likely for pennies on the dollar considering he's an unproven third-round choice who hasn't taken a meaningful snap in the league. As much as Corral may want to stay in Carolina through this summer, Reich and company may decide the signal-caller is worth more on the trade market than inside a quarterback room occupied by Young and veteran Andy Dalton.
