Stability is expected to remain in place in Chicago following the conclusion of the 2023 NFL season.

According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport , the Chicago Bears are expected to retain head coach Matt Eberflus for the 2024 season.

"I would be surprised as of right now if Matt Eberflus was not back for the Chicago Bears," Rapoport said. "They've looked much better... They certainly seem to be headed in the right direction... I hear nothing but positive vibes from Chicago."

The major news comes prior to the Bears Week 17 matchup against the Atlanta Falcons. The Bears second half turnaround in 2023 has been widely documented and now the team's head coach will be rewarded for his efforts.

The entire Bears locker room has rallied around their head coach in 2023 and voiced their support for the man leading them. After starting the season with a 3-8 record, the Bears have won three of their last four and are currently on a four game home winning streak entering their final home game of the season.

The Bears defense has been a major part of the team's turnaround in 2023 while being led by Eberflus throughout the majority of the year. The Bears defense ranks Top-10 in points per game allowed, total yards per game allowed, interceptions and rushing yards allowed since Week 5.

The Bears will still be expected to make major coaching changes to the staff during the offseason. The team is currently without a defensive coordinator and offensive coordinator Luke Getsy as been under a lot of scrutiny with his development of quarterback Justin Fields and the rest of the offense.

During Eberflus' first year as the Bears head coach, the team finished the season with a 3-14 record. The Bears have already doubled that win total in Year 2 of the Eberflus era with two games left to be played in 2023.

Bears general manager Ryan Poles will have one major decision crossed off his plate. Now, the Bears will have to determine whether or not they will also retain Fields as the team's starting quarterback going into 2024.
