Matt Forte is 'pissed' about the Chicago Bears bye week

No one can realistically claim that Chicago Bears running back Matt Forte isn't a competitor. After leading the NFL in rush attempts and rushing yards heading into Week 7, it's safe to assume that Forte would be looking forward to a week off.

Wrong!

Forte is not too happy about Sunday's loss against the Detroit Lions and would rather be on the field this upcoming weekend to get the bad taste out of his mouth:

"It's frustrating. I'm pissed off about it," Forte said via ESPN. "I don't want to go to the bye week. I want to focus on the next team."

At 2-4 on the season, Chicago could use this bye week to get everything straight. With Alshon Jeffery and Eddie Royal both struggling through injuries over the first month and a half, that's magnified even further.

Forte's major gripe is with the team's performance in an overtime loss to a previously winless Lions team on Sunday:

“The game was basically given to us,” Forte said. “We had a lot of opportunities to win that game.”

That's more than understandable. After losing its first three games of the season, Chicago found a way to run off a two-game winning streak against AFC West teams. With a win over a hapless Lions team on Sunday, the Bears could have found themselves at 3-3 on the season and certainly still in the NFC Playoff picture. If that had actually happened, Forte probably wouldn't be so upset heading into the bye week.

From a micro perspective, the bye week likely comes at a good time for Forte. As mentioned above, he leads the NFL in rush attempts (126) and rushing yards (507). With the workload the veteran has received over the past several years, being able to take a week off after putting up so many early-season touches can't be seen as a bad thing.
