Matthew Stafford's wife confirms QB is moving on from Lions

Matthew Stafford's 12-year run with the Detroit Lions will come to an end this offseason. NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reported that the two sides have agreed to part ways, and Stafford's wife, Kelly, essentially confirmed that report in an Instagram post on Monday.

Kelly Stafford thanked the Detroit community in her post, saying the city will always be her home. She also said she's unsure what the future holds for her and her husband.

It's unclear which teams might be interested in trading for Stafford. He is signed through the 2022 season and has cap hits of $20 million in 2021 and $23 million in 2022.

There is no timetable for a trade to be complete. However, Pelissero expects a move to happen before the fifth day of the new league year in March, when Stafford is owed a $10 million roster bonus.

In 12 seasons with Detroit, Stafford went 74-90-1, completing 62.6% of his passes. During the 2020 campaign, he led the struggling Lions to a 5-11 record, completing 64.2% of his passes for 4,084 yards and 26 touchdowns and 10 interceptions.

The 32-year-old will join an interesting quarterback market this offseason, with Texans star quarterback Deshaun Watson reportedly wanting out of Houston. Teams will also have the opportunity to draft Trevor Lawrence, Justin Fields, Zach Wilson, Trey Lance and Mac Jones, so there's really no telling where Stafford may end up in 2021.

Stafford exits Detroit as the Lions all-time leader in passing yards (45,109), touchdowns (282) and completions (3,898).
