Mel Kiper Jr. echoes Patrick Peterson's remarks to describe partnership between Steelers, Justin Fields

Free agent cornerback Patrick Peterson said last week that quarterback Russell Wilson and the Pittsburgh Steelers were a " match made in heaven."

During Tuesday morning's episode of "Get Up," ESPN analyst Mel Kiper Jr. echoed Peterson's remarks to describe the partnership between the Steelers and 25-year-old signal-caller Justin Fields.

"This was a giveaway, basically, here he is. Justin Fields can work in unison with Russell Wilson. He can give you packages that give defensive coordinators not one, but two quarterbacks to have to defend against and prepare for," Kiper Jr. said. "The Steelers and Justin Fields is a match made in heaven."

Wilson will turn 36 midway through the 2024 campaign and is coming off two rough seasons with the Denver Broncos. He recorded a 63.3 completion percentage for 6,594 passing yards, 42 touchdowns, 19 interceptions and a 90.9 passer rating in 30 games with Denver before being released.

Fields turned 25 two weeks ago and had an up-and-down three seasons with the Chicago Bears to begin his career after being selected 11th overall in the 2021 NFL Draft. The two-time Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year registered a 60.3 completion percentage with 6,674 passing yards, 40 touchdowns and 30 interceptions across 40 games (38 starts) with the Bears. Fields added 356 rushing attempts for 2,220 yards and 14 touchdowns on the ground.

Chicago is almost certain to select a quarterback with the No. 1 overall pick in April's draft, with most experts expecting them to choose Caleb Williams.

One day after Pittsburgh signed Wilson to a one-year contract, they traded quarterback Kenny Pickett to the Philadelphia Eagles.
