The Miami Dolphins were on the inside track for the number one overall seed. That dream took a hit on Monday night when the team collapsed in the last couple of minutes against the Tennessee Titans. After the game, former NFL head coach Jay Gruden had some thoughts about defensive coordinator Vic Fangio.

Miami Dolphins DC Vic Fangio Called Out By Jay Gruden

“Vic Fangio has some soul searching to do,” Gruden said in a segment after the game. He recognized that the defense made big plays but couldn’t generate consistent pressure. Any time that a team is playing a rookie quarterback, generating pressure is usually the best way to win. The Dolphins couldn’t do anything against a young Titans offensive line. If the Dolphins are going to have success in the playoffs, they are going to need to make quarterbacks uncomfortable.

How Concerned Should Fans Be?

This is a bad loss but it isn’t the end of the season. Miami is still in a great position for a playoff spot. The biggest concern is the injuries. Four offensive linemen were missing last night which definitely played a factor on offense. When Tyreek Hill went down, the offense changed. His health is paramount to the success of the team. This happens in the NFL. Parity is at an all-time high and good teams will collapse. It isn’t a concern long term but they do have things to fix.

Can the Miami Dolphins make a run in the playoffs? The AFC feels wide open so it may come down to who is the healthiest come playoff time.
