The Dallas-Philadelphia rivalry is alive and well, especially on the two respective rosters. Micah Parsons has embraced competing with the NFC East foe since being drafted. And now a few years later, he was on a live stream, reacting to who the Eagles selected in the 2024 NFL Draft.
In a year where not too many defensive guys are being taken, Howie Roseman got arguably the top cornerback in the class, Quinyon Mitchell. It’s the first time Roseman has selected a CB in the first round since taking over the franchise.
People in Philadelphia are going to be thrilled but Parsons is upset. He called the Eagles “lucky” for Mitchell falling to them at No. 22, loving the player the Toldeo product is. While Parson will not line up against him directly, the Dallas receivers now have a skilled defensive back to scheme against on the other side.
“I mean, I’m utterly disgusted on how lucky the Eagles are,” Parsons said. “He fell right into their lap. He checks every box. … I think this is a terrific pick. I don’t know how Howie and them get so lucky.”
Dallas is on the clock in two picks, currently holding the No. 24 overall pick. Hopefully, Parsons will enjoy the pick Jerry Jones makes as much as what Philadelphia just pulled off.
What NFL Draft analysts are saying about Quinyon Mitchell
Ahead of the 2024 NFL Draft, NFL.com analyst Lance Zierlein evaluated all the top prospects available for this season’s iteration, including the former Toledo star.
First off, Zierlein decided to compare Mitchell to defensive back Steven Nelson. He believes that’s his best pro comp, while adding his strengths include, “Well-built with broad shoulders and natural physicality,” and, “Feet are fairly nimble and agile to change direction with routes.”
Continuing, Zierlein provided his complete evaluation to Mitchell, believing him to possess, “a gumbo of traits.”
“Mitchell possesses a gumbo of traits, with size, strength and speed filling up the pot,” Zierlein wrote. “He’s built like a running back, tackles like a safety and has the ball skills of a cornerback. Mitchell can play in a variety of coverages and was the clear-cut top cornerback at the Senior Bowl when working against the top receivers in practice. While he needs to trace a more efficient path when hounding the route, his burst to close and physicality at the catch point could create tougher throwing windows for quarterbacks.
“Mitchell’s traits, play demeanor and special-teams potential should make him attractive to teams in the market for CB help.”
