Tua Tagovailoa has spent time this offseason learning how to better protect himself from injuries, and Michael Vick has suggested another way the Miami Dolphins quarterback might be able to accomplish that.

During a recent appearance on the “It Needed to Be Said” podcast with Tyreek Hill, Vick suggested that Tagovailoa should try to add some muscle mass.

“I just think he’s got to bulk up a little bit,” Vick said, via Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk. “Get a little bit bigger. Get stronger. As you grow into your man body, that’s what needs to happen. Ain’t nothing wrong with picking up another 10 pounds, 15 pounds. . . . Don’t get hit. Don’t get knocked around.”

Tagovailoa is listed at 217 pounds on the Dolphins’ official roster. That is hardly undersized for a quarterback, but adding muscle certainly would not hurt. Tagovailoa may have already done that this offseason, as some thought the former Alabama QB looked a bit bulkier when he first took the practice back in May.

Tagovailoa’s season was cut short last year after he suffered multiple concussions. The Dolphins felt the way he was falling may have made him more susceptible to head injuries, and Tua has tried to address that with a unique approach.

Tagovailoa was playing at an MVP level in his first season under Mike McDaniel before the concussions became an issue. If the quarterback can stay healthy, the Dolphins should be able to contend in a suddenly loaded AFC East.
