The Michigan Wolverines have been one of the big storylines of the college football offseason. After losing Jim Harbaugh to the NFL, Sherrone Moore took over and stabilized the program. Not only did he retain players and recruits, but he also brought in many high-quality position coaches. One of those coaches has found himself in a little trouble. New defensive line coach Greg Scruggs was arrested early Saturday morning for an OWI.

Michigan Wolverines DL Coach Greg Scruggs Arrested

Angelique Chengelis of The Detroit News was the first to report the news. A communications manager for the Ann Arbor police department said, “I can confirm he [Scruggs] was arrested for OWI by our department just before 3 a.m.” There are very few details, as a police report is not available at this time. However, an OWI can include 93 days in jail, a $100-500 fine, and up to six months suspension of a driver’s license. It is likely the 33-year-old coach will come to some sort of deal to stay out of jail, but this is not a great look.

What Does This Mean For The Program?

In all likelihood, this won’t affect the program all that much. It will have much more of an effect on Scruggs’ personal life than the team. No doubt he will pay some sort of fine or have his license suspended. This isn’t the first time Scruggs has had an issue like this. He had a DUI charge in 2011 when he was at the University of Louisville and was dismissed from the team.

The hope is that Greg Scruggs will find the help he needs. The Michigan Wolverines will likely help in any way they can to get their young coach back on the right track.
