Mike McCarthy leaves zero doubt on Cowboys' 2023 expectations

The Dallas Cowboys will feature a new offensive look in 2023, but it won't be with a drastic change at quarterback or any shift in who the go-to wide receiver is. While there's a new running back leading the way in Tony Pollard, arguably the biggest change will be the fact that the 2023 offense has head coach Mike McCarthy's fingerprints all over it.

Following the departure of Kellen Moore, who accepted the same role of offensive coordinator with the Los Angeles Chargers, it meant McCarthy would take over the play-calling and fully install his offense. And with great power, comes great responsibility, which McCarthy certainly already knows, but he spoke about this year's Cowboys team and his own coaching career heading into the new season.

“It’s always about the next game and the next championship. I’m here to win a championship," McCarthy told The Athletic's Jon Machota. "Make no bones about that.”

McCarthy has never lacked confidence, but he's also certainly not mincing his words this offseason. There's been plenty of hype surrounding the McCarthy-led Cowboys since he took over the job in 2020. After a tough 6-10 first season, the team has impressed in each of the past two years, posting records of 12-5 in each season.

Now, McCarthy and company are focused on getting over the hump in the playoffs and piecing together a legitimate run to the Super Bowl. Considering the Cowboys haven't made it further than the divisional round of the postseason since winning the Super Bowl in 1995, it's safe to say that even taking that next step forward would remove a huge weight from the franchise's back.

One thing that's certain is that this Cowboys team has the talent on both sides of the ball to get that job done and more if they can hit the ground running in 2023.
