Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Mike Strachan will miss the beginning of training camp with an undisclosed injury, per Charlie Clifford of WISH-TV. This same injury caused him to miss minicamps earlier this year. The length of this injury is a mystery. This injury continues to hinder the development of Strachan. He is missing precious reps with Matt Ryan, while his competition is already getting comfortable.

What This Injury Means for Mike Strachan

Mike Strachan was a seventh-round pick in the 2021 NFL draft. Strachan grabs attention with his build. He stands at 6’5″ and weighs 225 pounds. Strachan showed promise in a strong rookie preseason, but he was unable to find a role and playing time. He essentially redshirted, and he used this time to figure out the play book. Head coach Frank Reich wants his receivers to know every route and every distinct receiving position. This injury is a missed opportunity for Strachan to show what he learned.

Matt Ryan is already comfortable with his new receivers. This comfortability was achieved during spring training camps, Mike Strachan was unavailable during this time. The huge athlete that fans fell in love with, is steps behind the other receivers he is competing with and continuing to fall back. This could cause Strachan to fall all the way off of the depth chart. He could be replaced by Ashton Dulin and Dezmond Patmon.

Mike Strachan has impressed the Colts many times, and he will have an opportunity to do it again. His window is shrinking and the beginning of training camp could shrink it faster. Colts fans hope for a speedy recovery, and they hope Strachan can find the field and compete for a roster spot. With the Colts wide receiver room in the shape it is in, they really need Strachan.
