Mind-blowing stat proves why Steelers shouldn't be 4-2

The Steelers have continued to find ways to win and are somehow sitting in second place in the AFC North, but one stat exposes why they have no business being 4-2 based on their offensive play.

Pittsburgh has not had more plays from scrimmage, total yardage or first downs than any of its six opponents this season, according to Steelers Depot's Alex Kozora

Each of the Steelers' four wins have been decided by seven points or less, which proves they know how to win close games even when they may not deserve it. The offense is the second worst in total yards per game (273.5) and sixth worst in points per game (17.2).

It's certainly a credit to the defense, which continually makes big plays, as well as head coach Mike Tomlin and his coaching staff, who have been highly criticized to begin the year. It hasn't been pretty to watch but winning is the only stat that truly matters.

Sports personality Pat McAfee is as shocked as anyone.

"The Pittsburgh Steelers have been out-gained by 660 yards this season, they're 4-2," McAfee said on "The Pat McAfee Show." "They're the Iowa Hawkeyes of the NFL."

Pittsburgh's win streak has been aided by a little bit of luck as well. In the Steelers' Week 5 matchup, the Ravens had seven drops by their pass catchers. In Week 7, Rams kicker Brett Maher missed three kicks (two field goals, one extra point).

If a couple more catches were made by Baltimore and Maher never missed any kicks, those games may have had different results. But Pittsburgh can't focus on its opponents' woes and it should just try to capitalize when mistakes are made. The team has certainly done that.

The Steelers will try to continue their baffling win streak when they host the Jaguars (5-2) in Week 8.
