Minnesota Vikings fans were upset after learning the news that their star wide receiver and backup quarterback were placed on injured reserve Wednesday.

The Vikings revealed Justin Jefferson suffered a hamstring injury in their loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 5. Earlier this week, the Vikings didn’t think Jefferson would be back in time to play the Chicago Bears in Week 6.

But they will have to wait much longer than Week 6 until they see Jefferson again. According to Adam Schefter with ESPN, the Vikings placed Jefferson on injured reserve. They will be without Jefferson for their next four games.

The Vikings also placed backup quarterback Nick Mullens on the injured reserve.

Those moves are deflating for the Vikings’ options in the front office. With a 1-4 record, the Vikings should be sellers at the trade deadline with their best player, Jefferson, unable to play the next four games. Starting quarterback Kirk Cousins has been rumored to be on the trade market this season.

However, Mullens’ placement on injured reserve hurts the odds that Cousins can be traded. As Kevin Seifert with ESPN noted this week, the Vikings don’t have a good option to start if they deal Cousins with Mullens on injured reserve.
