When the Kansas City Chiefs‘ victory in Super Bowl LIV is brought up, players like Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce, and Tyreek Hill are often regarded as heroes.

After all, Mahomes and Hill connected on the “Wasp” play that ignited their comeback against the San Francisco 49ers.

But it’s hard to forget the efforts of defensive players Chris Jones, Justin Houston, and Eric Berry.

Then there are also offensive linemen Eric Fisher, Mitch Morse, Andrew Wylie, and Laurent Duvernay-Tardif.

But among Mahomes’ protectors, Mitchell Schwartz might have had the best season of them all.

Pro Football Focus writer Ari Meirov commemorated that wonderful campaign of the nine-year veteran.

Meirov tweeted, “Schwartz was tremendous for the #Chiefs during all his years, but his ’19 postseason was unreal: Had a 92.8 PFF grade, 89.3 pass-blocking & 94.0 run-blocking. 0 sacks allowed & just 1 pressure. KC won the Super Bowl. They greatly missed him in the Super Bowl vs. TB a year later.”

In short, Schwartz was like an impenetrable wall during the Chiefs’ Super Bowl-winning season.

His performance gave Mahomes more time to execute plays and evade pass rushers.

Schwartz was also a vital cog in giving Damien Williams, Spencer Ware, and Charcandrick West some room to run.

A Glimpse Of Schwartz’s NFL Career

The former California standout was selected by the Cleveland Browns in the second round of the 2012 NFL Draft.

With Cleveland, he was named to the All-Rookie Team by the Pro Football Writers Association.

He played with the Browns until 2015 and signed a five-year contract with the Chiefs afterward.

He started all 134 career games he played and was a First-Team All-Pro in 2018.

Schwartz also made the Second-Team All-Pro in 2016, 2017, and 2019.

He was released by the Chiefs after the 2020 season and hasn’t played since.
