Mitchell Trubisky wants to be starting QB again in 2022

Current Buffalo Bills backup quarterback Mitchell Trubisky entered the NFL when the Chicago Bears selected him with the No. 2 pick of the 2017 draft. By June 2020, Trubisky found himself publicly admitting that his overall lackluster play left him undeserving of Chicago picking up the fifth-year option attached to his rookie contract. The Bears ultimately let him hit free agency the subsequent offseason so they could take signal-caller Justin Fields in the first round of last year's draft.

Trubisky spent the 2021 campaign as Buffalo's QB2 behind Josh Allen but is less than a month away from being out of contract. For a piece published by Jeremy Fowler of ESPN on Tuesday, the 27-year-old said he is "in a confident space right now" and wants to compete for a starting job later this year.

"Going to Buffalo really opened my eyes," Trubisky said of this past season. "After being in Chicago for four years, there was only one way I knew how to do things. [Being] in Buffalo and [having] a different way of doing things, you learn what's possible. It helped me get back to instinctual football and using my talents rather than overthinking."

Former Bills offensive coordinator Brian Daboll became the new head coach of the New York Giants last month, and some have speculated Big Blue could bring Trubisky to town to push 2019 first-round draft pick Daniel Jones. Jones is recovering from the neck injury that prematurely ended his 2021 season and may not be cleared for contact before August.
