Mock draft predicts Cardinals won't select QB with first overall pick

Quarterback is the Arizona Cardinals' biggest need, yet a recent mock draft predicts they will select a highly touted wide receiver with the first overall pick of the 2024 NFL Draft.

"It will be fascinating to see what direction the Arizona Cardinals go with their first pick in the first round of the NFL Draft," wrote Connor Livesay of the 33rdTeam. "The smarter option here is hoping [QB Kyler] Murray returns to his pre-injury form and adding one of the more dynamic talents we've seen in recent years at receiver in Marvin Harrison Jr."

Harrison Jr. — the son of Pro Football Hall of Famer Marvin Harrison Sr. — has logged 140 receptions for 2,316 yards and 75 TDs in three seasons with the Ohio State Buckeyes. Per oddschecker, he has the fifth-best Heisman Trophy odds (+2000).

However, if Arizona selected the talented wideout with the top pick instead of a QB, it would be a mistake.

Even though Murray (torn ACL) is expected to play this season, Dan Graziano of ESPN recently reported several agents and executives believe "the Cardinals will likely move on from Murray after the season."

The Cardinals (1-8) don't have another viable starter on their roster. The team recently dealt backup Joshua Dobbs to the Minnesota Vikings, and rookie Clayton Tune underwhelmed in his debut. In a 27-0 loss to the Cleveland Browns on Sunday, the fifth-round pick out of Houston completed 11-of-20 passes for 58 yards and two interceptions.

Also, the 2024 draft class is loaded at QB. Talented prospects, such as North Carolina's Drake Maye and USC's Caleb Williams, head the list.

The Cardinals should select a QB in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft since it's a great time to find the answer at the most important position.
