Mohamed Sanu reveals why he didn't find success with Patriots

Mohamed Sanu's tenure with the New England Patriots didn't go as planned for both sides. The 31-year-old couldn't find a solid role in Bill Belichick's offense, but he's hoping things will be better with the San Francisco 49ers.

Speaking with reporters on Thursday, Sanu reflected on his brief Patriots' career, revealing why things didn't necessarily work out.

"I feel like it just wasn't a good fit," Sanu said, according to David Bonilla of 49ers Webzone. "Things happen the way they happen, and I'm not really looking to the past. I'm just focused on what I've got here in San Fran. I'm excited just to be a part of this team.

"This culture is just more my style. So, I'm excited for it. I'm just taking full advantage. I'm grateful for my time in New England. It taught me a lot. It just didn't gel out how I wanted."

The Patriots acquired Sanu before the trade deadline last season, sending a 2020 second-round pick to the Atlanta Falcons in exchange for the wide receiver. While he did have some solid performances with New England, an ankle injury suffered during Week 11 significantly decreased his effectiveness.

Sanu had surgery on his ankle during the offseason, but was released by the Patriots before Week 1 after a disappointing training camp. He quickly found a new home with the 49ers, making his San Francisco debut against the New York Jets in Week 2.

The Patriots have not yet replaced Sanu with an outside acquisition, though they may not have to if Damiere Byrd and N'Keal Harry continue to work well with Cam Newton.
