Yesterday, we learned the contract details for new Vikings Blake Cashman and Andrew Van Ginkel. Today, we've got a couple more to go over.
Let's start with Jonathan Greenard, the former Texans edge rusher who was the big fish of the Vikings' free agent haul last week. Coming off a 12.5-sack season, the 27-year-old is an ascending star who has a chance to replace Danielle Hunter as the best player on Brian Flores' defense. The Vikings signed Greenard to a four-year, $76 million deal with $42 million guaranteed.

Greenard got $38 million fully guaranteed at signing, which includes a $16.5 million signing bonus and an additional $2.5 million salary this year, plus another $19 million next year. He has another $4 million in guaranteed 2026 salary that will trigger at some point if he remains on the roster. The earliest potential out for the Vikings is before the 2026 season, though that would come with nearly $10 million in dead money.
As they've done with numerous contract in recent years, the Vikings included a couple void years at the end of Greenard's contract. The 2029 void year that doesn't currently include any money appears to be a tool that could help with a future restructure. Greenard's 2024 cap hit is just $5.74 million, and then it shoots up to $22.3 million in 2025 (when the Vikings will have much more cap space to work with).
Let's move on to the details of Aaron Jones' one-year, $7 million contract:
Jones got all $7 million fully guaranteed in the form of a $4 million signing bonus, a $2 million base salary, and $1 million combined in roster and workout bonuses. The signing bonus is spread across this year and four void years, meaning there will be a $3.2 million dead cap hit next year if he isn't retained by the Vikings.
The $3.5 million cap hit for Jones in 2024 ranks just 21st among all running backs in the NFL.
