The Minnesota Vikings on Monday confirmed their worst fears -- quarterback Kirk Cousins indeed tore his right Achilles and is done for the season.

"The timeline and details of his upcoming surgery will be determined this week," the team said in a statement.

Cousins was injured in the final minutes of the Vikings' 24-10 win over Green Bay on Sunday. Cousins went down with what the Vikings first called an ankle injury. Cousins was injured on a non-contact play. He planted his right leg, which wobbled slightly, as he scanned the field to throw a pass.

The 35-year-old Cousins completed 23 of 31 passes for 274 yards and two touchdowns before his injury. He finishes 2023 with 2,331 yards, 18 touchdowns and five interceptions.

The Vikings have not yet announced whether rookie Jaren Hall or Nick Mullens will take over at QB. Mullens is still on injured reserve but is eligible to be activated ahead of Week 10. That likely puts Hall as the starter for Week 9 against Atlanta, barring a move at the trade deadline. The Vikings also have Sean Mannion on the practice squad.

Cousins is in the final season of his current contract.

He has thrown for 39,471 yards and 270 touchdowns against 110 interceptions for his career.
