The Buffalo Bills weren't as active when it came to big signings in free agency, but they made one big splash signing in former Dallas Cowboys offensive guard Connor McGovern.

McGovern was one of the better offensive lineman on the market this offseason, and his three-year contract worth over $22 million with the Bills is proof of that. The 25-year-old played in 45 games with the Cowboys, starting 29 of them. In 2022, he had just one penalty and allowed two sacks in over 900 total snaps. Buffalo is now counting on McGovern to bring stability to an offensive line that has struggled at times, especially along the interior.

Despite his exit from Dallas, the Cowboys are still rooting for McGovern to succeed with his new team. Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy praised his former lineman, adding that the best is yet to come.

"I think he’s definitely on the rise,” McCarthy said. “Really, Connor’s challenge were his injuries early in his career. His best football is in front of him.

“He did a great job for us last year and particularly played well in the playoff games. I’m a big fan of Connor. Buffalo’s got a really good one.”

McGovern could end up playing multiple positions in Buffalo. He played both guard spots for the Cowboys, and could do the same for the Bills. He even took occasional snaps at fullback and tight end, although those days appear to be behind him. Still, McGovern believes playing so many different positions helped him become a better overall player.

Being so young, McGovern still has plenty of room to grow. If all goes well this season, the Bills could be the ones benefiting from that growth.
