When the Los Angeles Rams initially inked a one-year deal with veteran quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo, reports suggested it could be worth up to $12 million, highlighting the crucial phrase “up to.”

However, the base value as initially reported was $4.5 million, indicating a substantial figure nonetheless.

Recently, the full details of Garoppolo’s contract with the Rams have been disclosed by Over The Cap, revealing a notably manageable arrangement for Los Angeles.

As per OTC, Garoppolo commands a base salary of $1.21 million, fully guaranteed, alongside a $1.97 million signing bonus.

In sum, this amounts to $3.18 million in fully guaranteed money, also serving as his cap hit for the 2024 season. This figure falls within the range of cap hits for backup quarterbacks, such as Tyrod Taylor ($2.8 million), Cooper Rush ($2.9 million), Case Keenum ($3.3 million), and Davis Mills ($3.4 million).

Considering Garoppolo’s extensive experience as a veteran, the contract appears relatively economical, a testament to the strategic decisions made by Les Snead and the Rams. Notably, there are 41 quarterbacks with larger cap hits than Garoppolo in 2024, even before factoring in incoming rookies.

While the maximum value of the contract is substantial, it likely hinges on extended playing time in the event of Matthew Stafford‘s injury.

In such a scenario, the Rams would require the seasoned expertise of Jimmy Garoppolo to step in.
