Jalen Ramsey has long been considered one of the best cornerbacks in football, and new Miami Dolphins defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver plans to take full advantage of his skillset.

On Thursday, Weaver said he wants to move Ramsey around the field more, something former defensive coordinator Vic Fangio did not do.

“You talk about prototype corners, he is that,” Weaver said, via Kevin Patra of NFL media. “Size, length, speed, competitiveness. The thing about him is I think he is your ultimate chess piece. So to have him just sit outside and be a field corner or boundary corner or something like that is a detriment to him. We got to find ways to move him around where he can be most impactful. We’re committed to doing that.”

The Dolphins initially acquired Ramsey in a trade with the Los Angeles Rams in March 2023.

Due to a torn meniscus he suffered in training camp, Ramsey was limited to just 10 games in his debut campaign in South Beach, but during his time on the field, he was terrific, logging 22 tackles, three interceptions and five passes defended en route to his seventh straight Pro Bowl appearance.

Ramsey, who played his collegiate football at Florida State, was originally selected by the Jacksonville Jaguars with the fifth overall pick of the 2016 NFL Draft.

He spent the first three-plus years of his career with the Jaguars, making a couple of trips to the Pro Bowl and earning a First-Team All-Pro selection.

Jacksonville then traded him to the Rams midway through 2019. He went on to spend the next three-and-a-half years in Los Angeles, helping the team win a Super Bowl during the 2021-22 campaign.

During his time in LA, Ramsey earned four Pro Bowl nods and received First-Team All-Pro honors twice.

We’ll see if Weaver can fully maximize Jalen Ramsey’s talents in 2024. If he does, it will certainly be bad news for opposing quarterbacks.
