As expected, it cost a little bit for Cutler to get his trust number 6 back. Steve Mitchell-USA TODAY Sports

New Miami Dolphins quarterback Jay Cutler has worn the No. 6 jersey number dating back to his rookie season with the Denver Broncos back in 2006.

Cutler, who inked a one-year deal with Miami earlier in the week, was not about to give up his number. Instead, he decided to purchase the No. 6 from 2016 seventh-round pick and current third-string quarterback Brandon Doughty.

“We worked something out,” Doughty said, via the Sun-Sentinel.

While Doughty would not get into specifics, one has to wonder what exactly Cutler offered him for the jersey number. Here’s a young late-round pick set to earn a base salary of just $465,000 this season.

To put that into perspective, Cutler will earn $625,000 per game this season and has already cashed into the tune of $112-plus million in his career.

Let’s hope for the sake of everything right in the world that Cutler didn’t low-ball this young man.
