Tom Brady’s looming free agency continues to be one of the more intriguing NFL stories heading into the offseason.

Earlier this week the Tampa Bay Buccaneers parted ways with offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich. Whether that makes Brady more or less likely to commit to the organization after last season’s disastrous run remains unclear.

To date, one particular NFL team has widely been viewed as a frontrunner for Brady’s services.

This week a new potential suitor entered the cage.

According to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, the Miami Dolphins have emerged as a candidate for Brady’s services.

“Could he once again be in play for Miami?” Florio wrote. “As one source with general knowledge of the various dynamics regarding all things Brady (a source who firmly believed Brady could land with the Dolphins back in 2020) put it recently, the possibility is ‘definitely on the table.’

“It’s unclear whether the Dolphins would keep or move on from Tagovailoa. He’s due to make $4.738 million in 2023, the final year of his rookie deal. The Dolphins could keep him on the roster, as the backup to Brady — if Brady does indeed finally join the Dolphins.”

What the Las Vegas Raiders ultimately opt to do with Derek Carr will have some ramifications for Brady. There are currently three teams very interested in acquiring him, which will influence who will ultimately be in the hunt for Brady.

That said, it is clear that some sort of link between Brady and Miami still exists. They came very close to working together last year, and that partnership falling apart is a big reason why the consensus NFL GOAT retired and un-retired in such an odd fashion.

The Dolphins have something special in Tagovailoa, but his incessant head injuries are a concern.

Will they ultimately opt to dump him in favor of Brady this summer for that reason alone?

Time will tell.
