The New Orleans Saints could use an auxiliary option at wide receiver, and Cody Benjamin of CBS Sports sees Odell Beckham Jr. as a great for the team in that regard.

Imagine calling Beckham an “auxiliary option” five or six years ago? Nevertheless, at this stage of his career, that is exactly what he is.

The Saints already have Chris Olave and Rashid Shaheed at wide out, so Beckham would be the team’s third receiver if he chooses to join.

Benjamin notes that Beckham is originally from New Orleans, and he also played his collegiate football at LSU, so heading back to Louisiana certainly seems like a viable option.

The question is, would Beckham want to link up with a club that is clearly not a Super Bowl contender?

Beckham has already won a championship, a feat he achieved with the Los Angeles Rams during the 2021-22 campaign. Still, you would think he would rather contend for another title rather than simply sign with a team that has little to no chance of winning, and as a No. 3 option, no less.

The 31-year-old spent the 2023 campaign with the Baltimore Ravens and was a significant disappointment, playing in 14 games and logging just 35 catches for 565 yards and three touchdowns.

Beckham posted those numbers as the Ravens’ No. 2 receiver behind Zay Flowers, so it seems pretty clear at this point that he is a No. 3 guy on a legitimate contender.

There has been relatively limited interest in Beckham in free agency due to his rapid decline and the fact that he has a very checkered injury history. The baggage he brings isn’t exactly appealing, either.

However, at some point this offseason, it seems inevitable that a contender will come knocking at Beckham’s door and offer him something. Maybe the Houston Texans or San Francisco 49ers will take a look at him? Or perhaps the Detroit Lions will view him as a replacement for Josh Reynolds?

We’ll see what becomes of Odell Beckham Jr. in the coming weeks (or months).
