The New Orleans Saints signed a former first-round pick at safety to the 53-man roster to help provide depth to the team’s secondary. The Saints needed to add depth in the secondary after reports came out that safety Marcus Maye missed Wednesday’s practice with a shoulder injury.

The New Orleans Saints add a former 1st-rounder to 53-man

According to Tom Pelissero with the NFL Network, the Saints signed Johnathan Abram for the practice squad to the 53-man roster on Thursday.

The Las Vegas Raiders drafted Abram in the first round of the 2019 NFL Draft. He’s spent time with the Green Bay Packers and Seattle Seahawks before joining the Saints this March. Abram has 14 passes defended and three interceptions in his career.

Abram has appeared in two games (Week 4 and Week 5) for the Saints this season. According to Pro Football Focus, Abram has earned a 53.5 overall grade for his play this year.
