Tennessee Titans quarterback Will Levis Christopher Hanewinckel-USA TODAY Sports

New Tennessee Titans head coach Brian Callahan will be tasked with developing quarterback Will Levis, and how he will do that was a key question at his introductory press conference on Thursday.

Callahan had a lot of praise for Levis, praising the first-year quarterback’s “competitive instincts.” The new coach made it fairly clear that the team’s plan is to move forward with Levis, a second-round pick in 2023.

“I can’t wait to get to work with him,” Callahan said, via Nick Suss of the Tennesseean. “He’s got a lot of really special physical talents that I’m excited to see if we can go make better. Everything about him so far has been fantastic.

“Watching him learn, saw a lot of really positive things. His competitive instincts were really impressive.”

Callahan’s background was no doubt a factor in the Titans’ decision to hire him. He has previously worked with the likes of Peyton Manning, Matthew Stafford, and Joe Burrow, and the Titans want to see if he can develop Levis much the same way. One would imagine Callahan has a level of comfort with that expectation given his willingness to take the job.

Manning himself offered a big endorsement of Callahan after the hire. That can only be a positive for Levis, who had an uneven rookie season for Tennessee that included eight touchdowns and four interceptions in nine games.
