The New York Giants, in need of a kicker after Graham Gano‘s injury, opted to sign Cade York off of the Titans practice squad on Friday, according to NFL insider Adam Schefter. York was with Tennessee through the first eight weeks of the season but is now getting another shot at an active roster. The Giants also signed veteran Randy Bullock to their practice squad for additional depth.
York, a former fourth-round draft pick for Cleveland, opted not to sign with the Browns practice squad when they gave him the opportunity after his release this summer. Instead, he went to Nashville to join the Titans practice squad.
The Cleveland Browns ended up replacing York with veteran kicker Dustin Hopkins. They traded the Chargers a 2025 seventh-round pick to acquire Hopkins.
As a rookie, the young kicker went 24-for-32 on field goals, good for 75% makes. He also went 37-for-39 on extra-point attempts. The 22-year-old’s career-long is 58 yards. Last season, he missed three of eight kicks from 50+ yards out.
York was one of the best kickers in college football during his time with the LSU Tigers. As the starting kicker for the Tigers, the kicker made 54 of his 66 field goal attempts. Additionally, York was 15 of 19 on kicks from 50 yards or further, booming the 57-yard game-winner against Florida.
As far as extra points, the former Tigers kicker was near perfect, sinking 164 of 168 extra-point attempts for LSU.
Former LSU RB shocked by Buffalo weather after trade
The newest member of the Buffalo Bills, running back Leonard Fournette, had a hilarious reaction on Thursday following practice in the blistering temps of the Queen City. The cold weather may have the former Buc questioning his decision to ink a new one-year deal earlier this week.
“No lie Buffalo colder than a penguin a-- out here lord……” Fournette posted on X.
To be fair to the running back, the move from Florida to New York in November is a huge and abrupt change. Fournette spent the last three seasons in Tampa Bay where it is still a balmy 70 degrees. The low on Sunday in Buffalo is 40 degrees.
The former first-round selection out of LSU had been an unsigned free agent but has found a new – albeit chilly – home, at least for the next few months.
Buffalo’s social media also got a kick out of the running back’s new harsh reality. The X account posted pictures of Fournette first wearing minimal layers at practice, then another with him in full cold-weather gear, complete with a hand-warming pouch. “Lenny is a quick learner,” the caption reads.
This will be Fournette’s first time playing with an NFL team outside of Florida. He spent the first three seasons of his career (2017-19) with the Jacksonville Jaguars before joining the Bucs ahead of the 2020 season.
