The New York Giants have been a captivating team to watch leading up to the 2024 NFL Draft.

With the New England Patriots hinting at a potential blockbuster trade, several teams are vying for a chance to secure a top quarterback prospect.

Among those eyeing a move is the Giants, a rival of the Patriots in the NFC. Reports suggest that Brian Daboll and his team are keen on acquiring a promising quarterback for the future, with UNC’s Drake Maye being a prime target.

However, while the fit between Maye and the Giants seems promising, executing the trade may prove challenging, given recent developments in the league.

Insider Jordan Schultz of Bleacher Report suggests that while the Giants are interested in trading up to acquire Maye at the third spot, it’s considered a “long shot” unless the Patriots receive an irresistible offer.

“The Giants have been trying to trade up to No. 3 with the Patriots, with the belief being they want UNC QB Drake Maye, according to multiple league sources. The prevailing belief is it’s a long shot to happen — but New England is listening to all calls.”

The Patriots appear inclined to stay put and select a quarterback at number three, with Maye being their primary focus. Despite entertaining offers, the lack of compelling packages from other teams makes it unlikely for the Patriots to deviate from their top-three position.

Maye, despite some uncertainties regarding his transition to the NFL, possesses qualities that align with what the Patriots seek in a franchise quarterback. With impressive passing yards, touchdowns, and interceptions during his recent season with the Tarheels, Maye’s arm talent, size, and athleticism make him an enticing prospect for teams across the league.

The heightened interest in the Patriots’ pick underscores the widespread belief in Maye’s potential, emphasizing the importance of the Patriots making the right choice for their future. As the draft approaches, New England is expected to keep all options open until they officially make their selection.

The 2024 NFL Draft is set to commence on Thursday night in Detroit at 8 PM ET. If they can’t move up, it will be interesting to see what the New York Giants choose to do in the first round.
