As the New York Jets continue to work on a trade for Aaron Rodgers, they may also be eying a Pro Bowler to snap him the ball.
'The New York Post'’s Ben Costello reported Sunday that free agent center Ben Jones could be in the Jets' plans upcoming while noting that the lineman spent the last five seasons as a Tennessee Titan, where he worked with assistant Keith Carter. New York brought Carter on as offensive line coach earlier this offseason.
Jones, who turns 34 in July, was a Pro Bowler last season for Tennessee. Outside of time missed due to concussion concerns, the veteran served as the Titans’ starting center for 33 games over the previous two seasons. He was released by the rebuilding Tennessee earlier this month.
The need is an obvious one for New York. This past season, the Jets surrendered 42 sacks while finishing with the NFL's 31st-ranked offensive line, per Pro Foootball Focus metrics. Jones, who has already shown an ability to adapt to any situation, would almost certainly be able to provide immediate help for the franchise, at least by degrees.
