Back in 2022 the New York Jets had one of the best defensive lines in the NFL. But last season it was basically just Quinnen Williams and a bunch of other big bodies that couldn't make a play. The Jets decided they needed to fix that on day one of the NFL free agency legal tampering period and set up a deal to go through this Wednesday.

Adam Schefter reported late Monday evening that the Jets are planning to sign former San Francisco 49ers defensive tackle, Javon Kinlaw to a one-year deal.

Kinlaw is coming off the best season of his still quite young NFL career. In 2023 he logged four sacks and pressured opposing quarterbacks on 10% of his pass rush snaps, good for a Top 40 in the league. His presence in the middle should be an instant boost in pass rush for the Jets.

On the other hand his run defense been a bit of an issue for the majority of his career, missing about 9% of his tackles prior to last season. However, Kinlaw cleaned things up in 2023 only missing about 3% of his tackle opportunities last season. It seems he's taken his entire game to the next level.

This is the kind of signing that won't get all the attention in March, but it could end up being the difference between a playoff spot and not when it counts in December.
