The New York Jets have been having some trouble on the field this season but it seems that a former star on the defensive side of the ball has had some issues with the law. TMZ Sports is reporting that former defensive lineman Muhammad Wilkerson was arrested on multiple charges in New Jersey.
The report states he was pulled over on December 22nd and failed a sobriety test. To add to the issue, the police found an open bottle of tequila as well as a loaded gun in the vehicle when inspecting it. The former New York Jets player reportedly told the police that he was on his way home from a New York City club.
The gun that was found in the vehicle was an FN 509 Tactical Handgun with 11 hollow point bullets. Court records show that Wilkerson has been charged with a few charges including unlawful possession of a handgun and operating a vehicle while under the influence.
This is not the first time that Wilkerson was arrested for drinking and driving as he was arrested in 2019 and 2020 for similar situations. Muhammad Wilkerson was a force on the defensive line throughout his eight-year NFL career as he made one Pro Bowl and tallied 44.5 sacks. He spent seven years with the New York Jets after being drafted in the first round and ended his career with the Green Bay Packers in 2018.
What will the New York Jets do during the offseason?
The New York Jets have to be smart during the offseason as they were able to keep their first-round pick in the 2024 NFL draft due to the Aaron Rodgers injury. However, this team has a lot of holes that need to be addressed.
Thankfully for the team, the defense has been well but the offense needs a lot of help. The offensive line is the biggest issue as offensive tackle Mekhi Becton has been one of the most pressured and most penalized offensive linemen this season. The next thing is to find a second wide receiver to pair with second-year star Garrett Wilson on the outside, whether it be in the draft, free agency or via a trade.
This Jets team has some serious holes they need to fix if they want to be Super Bowl contenders next season.
