The New York Jets add to the line
The New York Jets have been busy in free agency this week. The Jets signed former Green Bay Packers wide receiver Allen Lazard this week. There’s much anticipation that Lazard, offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett, and Aaron Rodgers will be reunited with the Jets shortly. The team added another depth piece for the offensive line on Thursday.
According to Aaron Wilson with KPRC, the Jets signed former Washington commanders offensive lineman Wes Schweitzer.
Schweitzer was a former sixth-round draft pick by the Atlanta Falcons in 2016. He had been with the Commanders from the 2020 seasons. According to the New York Jets, Schweitzer has played all five offensive lineman positions in the NFL and has starting experience:
“Schweitzer (6-4, 300) started 6 games for the Washington Commanders last season and appeared in 7 games. He played right guard (71 snaps) and center (348 snaps) in the 2022 season. The San Jose State product has started 60 of the 80 games he’s played in over his six NFL seasons.
Schweitzer has taken snaps at every position since being drafted by the Falcons in sixth round in 2017. He’s predominantly played left guard with 2,219 snaps, followed by right guard 1,979, center 430, left tackle 3 and right tackle 1.”
Schweitzer appears to be a solid pickup for the Jets’ offensive line that can bring flexibility if an interior lineman gets injured next season.
