In 2020, the Green Bay Packers (509) and Buffalo Bills (501) finished 1-2 in the league, respectively, in points scored. On Sunday, the clubs combined for 19 points and one touchdown. The Packers and Bills were two of the four defending division champions to lose in Week 1 – joining the Washington Football Team and the Tennessee Titans. Both teams lost at home to the Chargers and Cardinals, respectively…
It’s Not How You Start
Worried that a team that lost their season opener has already crippled its chances for reaching Super Bowl LVI at Los Angeles? Think again. The eventual Super Bowl champion is 44-10-1 in season openers and a year ago, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers fell at New Orleans on the opening Sunday and eventually went onto win Super Bowl LV over the Chiefs.
Go West
It was all or nothing for three of the NFL’s eight divisions in Week 1. While the NFC North saw the Packers, Vikings, Bears, and Lions take it on the chin (and allow a combined 140 points in 4 losses), both the AFC West and NFC West teams all won their eight games – including the Raiders’ thrilling 33-27 overtime win over the Ravens on Monday night at Las Vegas. Meanwhile, the Broncos, Chargers, Seahawks, 49ers and Cardinals all came away with road victories. Each of the four NFC West teams, including the Rams, scored at least 28 points in their wins.

Colts
With fans back at full capacity at Lucas Oil Stadium, things seemed to be almost back to normal for a regular-season opener for the Colts. With Carson Wentz back on the field after missing the preseason with a foot injury along with practices due to COVID-19, “Welcome to Indy” will have to wait after the Colts dropped their home opener to the Seattle Seahawks, 28-16.
The team is now 1-11 in its last 12 season openers and on Sunday, lost their first game of the year for the eighth straight time.
Despite the chaos that unfolded, Wentz played a good game despite the hurdles he faced prior to his first appearance with the team. This game was not a great team performance. But they always live to see another day. And with that being said, bring on the Rams!
