We are back with another edition of “Notes, Quotes and Colts,” the latest collaboration from pfgVIBE co-founders Julie Voigt and Russell S. Baxter. What’s worth a closer look, who said what and what’s going on with that winless team in Indianapolis?

Notes

Many happy returns?

The Jacksonville Jaguars are 0-3 this season under new head coach Urban Meyer. The franchise has dropped 18 consecutive games dating back to Week 2 of 2020. The team has committed an NFL-high nine turnovers, all by rookie quarterback Trevor Lawrence. But there has been quite the bright spot in special teams’ standout Jamal Agnew. He followed his 102-yard kickoff return for a touchdown vs. the Broncos in Week 2 by taking back a missed field goal 109 yards (tied for the longest play in NFL history) vs. the Cardinals on Sunday.

Awfully offensive

Chicago Bears’ rookie Justin Fields had quite the forgettable day on Sunday, as did Matt Nagy’s offensive unit. The 2021 first-round pick from Ohio State threw for 68 yards but was sacked nine times for 67 yards in losses. That means the Bears finished with one yard net passing vs. the Browns. Add 46 yards on the ground and Chicago finished with 47 total yards in the 26-6 loss. That yardage total was 29 less than Rams’ wide receiver DeSean Jackson’s 75-yard TD grab vs. the Buccaneers on Sunday at Los Angeles.

First to last?

Three weeks into 2021, the Rams are the only playoff team from a year ago that hasn’t lost a game this year. Meanwhile, the Pittsburgh Steelers, Kansas City Chiefs, Washington Football Team and Seattle Seahawks are all 1-2 after winning their respective divisions a season ago. In fact, Andy Reid’s club has already lost as many regular-season games as they did a year ago when they finished with an NFL-best 14-2 record. Add in the 1-2 Chicago Bears and 0-3 Indianapolis Colts

Quotes

“How could you not be romantic about football?”

Green Bay Packers’ quarterback Aaron Rodgers to NBC’s Michele Tafoya following the team’s 30-28 win over the 49ers

“We’re going to be all right, guys. All right? We’re going to be all right.”

New York Giants’ head coach Joe Judge following the team’s 17-14 loss to the Atlanta Falcons

“I think he’s clearly playing better now, in my opinion. Last year, we were in track meets. This is a clearly a different football team than last year. You’re seeing three games where I felt like we’ve been very complimentary both on offense and defense. He’s doing a lot in the run game as far as handling the checks and things like that.”

Dallas Cowboys’ head coach Mike McCarthy on quarterback Dak Prescott following the team’s 41-21 Monday night win over the Philadelphia Eagles

Colts

Frustration, angry and acceptance.

Although it sounds like part of the five stages of grieving, it is also the realization that is the 0-3 Indianapolis Colts.  The question that arises is clear: Why can’t this team produce in the red zone?

The Colts need to start taking the advantages that are handed to them.  More importantly, a game will be won when all pull together and work towards a win. The defense needs to stay consistent and the offense needs to start closing the deal when in the red zone.

Most important, give credit to Carson Wentz. Being able to play through as much pain as he has along with recovering from a foot surgery, this man must be tough. Next up, former Colts’ quarterback Jacoby Brissett and the Miami Dolphins.
