The NFL will reinstate suspended wide receiver Josh Gordon, clearing the way former the former All-Pro selection to make another run at pro football.

Gordon, age 30, holds the unfortunate record for most suspensions in NFL history. He was suspended in 2019 for violating the NFL’s policy for substance abuse and performance-enhancing drugs.

After being reinstated on Dec 21, 2020, he was suspended a day later for violating the terms of his conditional reinstatement and was suspended again.

An All-Pro selection in 2013, Gordon is now attempting another comeback. After applying for reinstatement in July, with support from the players’ union, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that Gordon is clearer to return.

When he was on the field, Gordon proved he could still make an impact.

Gordon last played an NFL snap with the Seattle Seahawks during the 2019 season. Following his release from the New England Patriots, Gordon hauled in six catches for 139 receiving yards in five games with the Seahawks. Before that, he posted 287 receiving yards and a touchdown in six games with the Patriots.

At times flashing the talent to be one of the best offensive players in the NFL, Gordon has served five suspensions for violating the league’s substance-abuse policy. With the league no longer penalizing players for marijuana use, there is hope that Gordon can avoid further trouble with the NFL.
