NFL analyst says D’Andre Swift could be among NFL’s elite by year’s end

The Detroit Lions have not had a 1,000-yard rusher since Reggie Bush in 2013, but third-year running back D’Andre Swift is on track to buck that trend this season.

Through two games, Swift has 200 yards rushing and is averaging 10 yards per carry, and he’s accounted for 31 percent of Detroit's offense. His 262 yards from scrimmage ranked third in the NFL prior to Monday night, just behind Tyreek Hill (290) and Saquon Barkley (282).

Though a small sample size, Swift’s performance has caught the eye of many, including NFL analyst Brent Sobleski. In his latest column for Bleacher Report, Sobleski boldly compares Swift to a trio of the top running backs in the AFC.

“A healthy Swift plays behind one of the league's best offensive lines,” he said. “The Lions' passing attack is taking off thanks to Amon-Ra St. Brown's ascension and improved weapons elsewhere at wide receiver. Detroit's featured back has the potential to be in the same conversation as (Indianapolis RB) Jonathan Taylor, (Tennessee RB) Derrick Henry and (Cleveland RB) Nick Chubb by the end of this season.”

Two games into his third season, Swift has totaled 1,338 rushing yards, 871 receiving yards and 21 total touchdowns. He has, however, missed three games during his rookie year and four games last year. Despite playing in 28 games, Swift has only started 10 of them.

Swift is one of just 10 players and the only running back in the league to average more than 10 yards per touch.
