Fans finally had a chance to see some of their favorite prospects both on and off the practice field. One receiver that has entered the draft had a special message for Raider Nation.
The NFL world descended on Indianapolis this week for the NFL Combine. Many of the top prospects took their turns at the microphone to answer questions from the media and other events. One of those was former Ohio State receiver Chris Olave, who was one of the top receivers in the country.
Olave is slated to be picked in the first round of the draft in April, and many are hopeful that he falls to the Raiders at pick No. 22. It appears that Olave may also be hopeful that it works out that way when he was asked how he would feel playing for the Raiders.
What did Chris Olave have to say?
“My oldest brother is a huge fan of the Raiders; I’d love to go there. They moved to Las Vegas recently and they have a great organization, and I would love to go there and play for them.” -Olave speaking on the prospect of playing in Vegas
Olave, who stands at six-foot-one and weighs 188 lbs., has been described as one of the smoothest route runners in the draft. He has speed, great ball skills, and all that on top of his pristine route running. Olave can take the top off a defense and be used both as a deep threat and as a dynamic receiver underneath.
Fittingly, Olave was a Biletnikoff Award semi-finalist during his time at Ohio State. He also placed his name with other great receivers on the record books at OSU for his offensive output. Olave put up significant numbers at Ohio State playing opposite another high-powered receiver, Garrett Wilson. He finished his senior year with 65 receptions, going for 939 receiving yards and scoring 13 touchdowns.
Speed kills, Olave would fit right in with the Raiders
Olave predicted that he would make a splash in the 40-yard dash, and initially he did, clocking in at 4.26. He was immediately declared to be a favorite for the Raiders, especially considering the late Al Davis’ well-known obsession with speed. The time was later adjusted to 4.39, but Olave was still declared one of several winners from the draft. During the on-field drills, the quarterbacks frequently overthrew the receivers, but Olave worked with what was given and hauled in some impressive catches. Olave showcased his clean route running, fast breaks, and strong hands.
The Raiders have been looking for an option to replace Henry Ruggs III after his midseason release. Luckily, Olave is more than a suitable option. It’s always exciting to hear that a top-notch athlete as potent as Olave publicly declares interest in playing for the Raiders. In this circumstance, it’s safe to say the feeling is mutual.
