NFL Concussions up in 2022 season

We saw NFL concussions up during the 2022 regular season, per a new report. The excellent news, injuries were down this season. The report comes just days after Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa cleared the concussion protocol. Tua was one of the big named players who suffered concussions this season. By the end of the season, Tua sustained three brain injuries.

His injury on Thursday Night Football in Week 4 changed how the NFL concussion protocol works. Tua was joined by many other NFL players who suffered concussions. According to Judy Battista, there were 23 more concussions this season than in 2021. Quarterbacks had a higher number of brain injuries than usual.

The good news from the report, injuries overall were down 5.6 percent from 2021. That’s a good trend for the league in the future. The NFL has taken steps to help protect players’ bodies in recent years. We’ll see how the NFL adjusts to concussions for next season.

The NFL has gone out of its way to protect quarterbacks, even making enormous advantages for the most important and defenseless football position. But big-time hits from heavy and fast NFL players are sometimes unavoidable. As players get bigger, we’ll see NFL concussions up in the future unless more changes take place.
