The Tennessee Titans have selected University of Texas defensive lineman T’Vondre Sweat with the 38th overall pick of the NFL Draft on Friday night, and a former NFL executive tells the NFL Analysis Network that the Titans landed a steal.

“I had this kid at the end of the first round,” the exec said. “The Titans have been rebuilding their defense this offseason with the move for L’Jarius Sneed and now this pick for T’Vondre Sweat. He’s going to be a Vita Vea clone and an extremely high impact player.”

Tennessee has certainly been busy this offseason on both sides of the ball, and the addition of Sweat is the latest major move for a club that went just 5-12 this past year.

Sweat is coming off of a 2023 campaign in which he registered 45 tackles, eight tackles for loss, a couple of sacks and four passes defended.

The 22-year-old, who stands 6-foot-4 and weighs over 360 pounds, should certainly help shore up the Titans’ run defense.

Sweat arrived at Texas in 2019 and made minimal impact at first, but in his second season, his role grew, as he finished with 22 tackles, four tackles for loss and a sack. He added a forced fumble and a fumble recovery.

He posted nearly identical numbers in 2021, but in 2022, Sweat began to progress, recording 30 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss and four passes defended.

The Huntsville, Tx. native then had a breakout campaign of sorts this past year.

We’ll see if T’Vondre Sweat can represent a big piece on the new-look Titans in 2024.
