The Buffalo Bills are in need of a running back this offseason.

With veteran running back Latavius Murray unsigned, the Bills need some depth behind starter James Cook.

ESPN wrote a recent article linking "perfect fits" for remaining free agents and the Bills were connected to Kansas City Chiefs running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire.

"Edwards-Helaire's best college season came with Joe Brady as the offensive coordinator, and the former LSU assistant is now the offensive coordinator with the Bills. James Cook is the unquestioned lead back in Buffalo, but Edwards-Helaire could figure in a competition with Ty Johnson for reserve work," ESPN writes.

Edwards-Helaire, who turns 25 next month, had 411 yards from scrimmage this past season for the Chiefs as Isiah Pacheco's backup. He is a free agent this year after the Chiefs declined his fifth-year option. While he hasn't lived up to his first-round draft potential, Edwards-Helaire has experience in the system and two Super Bowl rings to show for it.

He doesn't need to be a lead back for the Bills, but when Cook goes down, Edwards-Helaire would be a top backup and be able to fill in.

But even if the Bills signed Edwards-Helaire to a one-year deal, it would be wise for the team to draft another running back to compete against him for touches along with Johnson.
