Drew Brees missed four games in his final NFL regular season with the New Orleans Saints.
In 12 games played, he threw for 2,942 yards, 24 touchdowns, and six interceptions.
Unfortunately, he retired after a disappointing performance in their Divisional Round game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
That game proved that it was time for him to continue his football journey beyond the field.
He did stay close to the game he loved by being an analyst for NBC Sports.
However, he recently announced that he will be leaving the network one year into the job.
The 43-year-old play-caller doesn’t know yet what he will do next.
But in his recent tweet, he did not rule out the possibility of playing professional football again.
NFL insider Dov Kleiman had to put things into perspective regarding that option.
Kleiman tweeted, “I understand that Brees might be tired of all the jokes about his struggling broadcasting career but he didn’t retire from the NFL by choice, the NFL retired him because he was done. His last game was a 3-INT playoff gm that wasted his great defense. I don’t see him back in NFL”
It’s hard to see Brees being physically capable to endure a 17-game regular season.
The mind might be willing, but nagging injuries might prevent him from turning back the clock.
What Would Brees Do?
For now, it would be better for Brees to take his time before making a decision.
He joined NBC after retiring, giving him little time to enjoy retirement and spending time with his family.
With his kids growing, he owes it to them to be more present at home.
If he had been wise with the money he earned throughout his 20-season career, finances won’t be a problem.
But if he will stay close to football, the best bet would be for Brees become a coach because of the limitless wisdom acquired from the sport.
