The Pittsburgh Steelers are entering a new era as GM Kevin Colbert retired after the 2022 NFL Draft.

He has been with the franchise since 2000 when he became director of football operations.

He then became the team’s general manager in 2010 and also held the position of vice president in 2016.

With Colbert leaving the front office in this main capacity, the Steelers’ search for a new general manager continues.

Some of the executives they’ve interviewed for the role are the Tennessee Titans’ Ryan Cowden and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ John Spytek.

They also brought in former Buffalo Bills general manager Doug Whaley for a second interview.

However, NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero revealed another candidate for the job.

Pelissero tweeted, “The #Steelers are bringing in #Eagles VP of player personnel Andy Weidl for a second interview for their GM job, per source. Weidl is a Pittsburgh native and got his start in the NFL there as a player personnel assistant from 1998-99.”

Weidl is working for Eagles general manager Howie Roseman who is considered as one of the NFL’s best in his position.

Roseman helped Joe Douglas and Andrew Berry become the general managers of the New York Jets and the Cleveland Browns, respectively.

Therefore, the Steelers are hoping that another Roseman disciple will help them sustain their impressive run during the Mike Tomlin era.

Weidl Could Come Home

His career will come full circle if the Steelers hire him as their general manager.

The Pittsburgh native became a player personnel assistant during the 1998-99 season.

Since then, he has climbed through the hierarchy and is now on the verge of becoming a general manager.

If he does get hired, he will pay attention to every detail, just like how Roseman assesses a prospect.
