The Denver Broncos have an obvious need at quarterback after releasing Russell Wilson, but that may not be the direction they go in the first round of the NFL Draft this week.

According to Benjamin Allbright of KOA Colorado, the Broncos aren’t looking at a quarterback with the 12th overall pick. They are looking at tackles.

Denver certainly has some holes along its offensive line, but given its situation under center and the fact that this is considered one of the deepest quarterback draft classes ever, you would think the Broncos would prefer to go with a signal-caller at No. 12.

That being said, because of the depth of the position in this draft, they may feel that they will be able to take a capable quarterback in the later rounds.

Unless Denver trades up, it won’t be able to land one of the top three quarterback prospects. Caleb Williams, Jayden Daniels and Drake Maye are almost certainly out of the question. J.J. McCarthy probably isn’t a possibility, either.

However, the Broncos may be able to snag someone like Washington’s Michael Penix Jr. or Oregon’s Bo Nix, although taking either player at No. 12 could be a case of overdrafting.

Taking that into consideration, it may be wise for Denver to trade down in the first round and pick up some extra draft choices in order to further fill out the roster.

That way, the Broncos can still take a quarterback and a tackle while also filling other needs.

We’ll see what Denver decides to do later this week.
