NFL to conduct own investigation into allegations against Dan Snyder

The investigation into Washington Commanders owner Dan Snyder appears to be evolving by the hour.

It was reported early on Wednesday that Snyder and the team were launching an independent investigation into specific sexual assault allegations made by former marketing and events coordinator Tiffani Johnston.

In a later Wednesday report, the league has specified it is launching its own independent investigation into the allegations.

Snyder and the Commanders announced early Wednesday they have appointed Pallas Global Group LLC to lead their own investigation into Johnston's claims that Snyder touched her without consent at a business dinner 13 years ago, putting his hand on her thigh at the dinner table and then trying to force her into his limousine after the meal.

Johnston was one of five women who detailed Snyder's history of sexual harassment at a congressional hearing last week.

Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi, chairman of the House Oversight Committee's Subcommittee on economic and consumer policy, told ESPN it is unsettling what great length Snyder is going to to prove Johnston wrong.

"Dan Snyder already called Tiffani Johnston a liar," Krishnamoorthi said. "And so for him to then hire an investigator to look at those claims begs the question of whether the investigation will really be impartial or unbiased. Or will it be prejudiced in favor of Dan Snyder's side of the story, because after all, these investigators and these people are being paid by Dan Snyder."

Lisa Banks, one of the attorneys representing Johnston, called Snyder's investigation a "sham" in a statement.

Snyder and the newly rebranded Commanders have been under investigation since last fall.
