News of Patrick Mahomes' contract extension sent a jolt through the NFL world on Monday.  Matthew Emmons-USA TODAY Sports

News that Patrick Mahomes agreed to terms with the Kansas City Chiefs on a 10-year contract shook the NFL world on Monday.

Social media reactions were widespread. As you’d expect, many of the reactions were to the amount of money the deal will certainly include.

Many others, however, fixated on the unprecedented length of the deal. It’s a 10-year pact, and Mahomes will be 36 when it expires.

There was another angle: what Mahomes’ deal will mean for the rest of the quarterback market. That’s especially relevant in Dallas, where the Cowboys are still trying to sort out a long-term deal with Dak Prescott.

You have to wonder how one of Mahomes’ teammates will feel about this deal given the situation he’s in, too.
