The New York Giants currently own the sixth overall pick in the NFL Draft, but Ali Bhanpuri of NFL.com sees a scenario in which they can swing a trade with the New England Patriots for the No. 3 selection.

Bhanpuri proposes that the Giants trade No. 6, a second-round pick, a third-rounder and 2025 second-round selection to the Patriots in exchange for the third overall pick.

This would allow New York the chance to select one of the top quarterback prospects in this year’s draft class, which would probably be who is left between North Carolina’s Drake Maye and LSU’s Jayden Daniels. Michigan’s J.J. McCarthy would also represent a possibility.

The Giants are one of the most interesting teams to monitor heading into the draft next Thursday.

You would think New York would be dead set on a quarterback in the first round, but there is some debate as to what the Giants will actually do.

Some feel that New York will take a wide receiver like LSU’s Malik Nabers or an offensive lineman like Notre Dame’s Joe Olt at No. 6 and then potentially select a signal-caller such as Oregon’s Bo Nix in the second round, assuming Nix is available at No. 47.

But in Bhanpuri’s scenario, Big Blue would obviously be going all in on a quarterback, much in the same way the Giants went all in on Eli Manning back in 2004.

Daniel Jones is under center for New York at the moment and is one year removed from signing a four-year, $160 million extension. However, the deal is only guaranteed through the end of next season, so the Giants can technically cut bait with Jones after 2024.

If New York is able to entice the Patriots to trade down from No. 3, the Giants may very well have to pull the trigger. It’s becoming pretty evident that Jones is not the answer, even if the circumstances in the Big Apple haven’t exactly been fair to him since he was drafted in 2019.
