No. 1 pick Trevor Lawrence signs four-year, $36.8 million rookie deal with Jaguars

Trevor Lawrence will be a Jacksonville Jaguar for at least the next four seasons.

The 2021 No. 1 pick put pen to paper on a four-year, $36.8 million rookie deal that includes $24.1 million guaranteed and a standard fifth-year option, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

The news of his signing comes after ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reported last week that Lawrence and the Jaguars were in a standoff over his rookie deal because of the "offset language in those third and fourth years" of the contract.

Jacksonville has not yet named Lawrence its starter for the 2021 season. Jaguars head coach Urban Meyer recently told Mackenzie Salmon of Sports Seriously that the Clemson product began studying the playbook before the draft and is advancing "maybe quicker" in the offense than the team anticipated.

However, Meyer also said that Lawrence is "not ready yet," though he added that the 21-year-old has a "really good work ethic" and has "progressed very well."

Lawrence is expected to win Jacksonville's starting job over Gardner Minshew, Jake Luton and C.J. Beathard after a decorated college career that saw him complete 66.6 percent of his passes for 10,098 yards with 90 touchdowns against 17 interceptions across 40 games for Clemson.

Lawrence is the second quarterback selected in the first round of the 2021 draft to sign his rookie deal, joining Chicago Bears signal-caller Justin Fields. New York Jets' Zach Wilson, San Francisco 49ers' Trey Lance and New England Patriots' Mac Jones remain unsigned.
