No new COVID-19 cases for Panthers, game vs. Broncos still on

The Carolina Panthers came off their bye week by adding eight players to the reserve/COVID-19 list on Monday and closing their facility through early Wednesday morning. Those actions put this coming Sunday's home game versus the Denver Broncos in doubt.

There's good news, however. NFL Network's Tom Pelissero (h/t Nick Shook) reported on Tuesday that the Panthers recorded no additional positive COVID-19 test results overnight. Barring the discovery of unknown active coronavirus cases affecting the club, Carolina should reopen its facility for Wednesday's practice ahead of the weekend.

Three of the eight players newly on the reserve/COVID-19 list, including wide receiver DJ Moore, tested positive for the virus, while the other five were deemed high-risk close contacts. Fellow wideout Curtis Samuel is a close contact and could potentially miss the Denver game.

Moore leads the Panthers with 924 receiving yards and four touchdown grabs, while Samuel has contributed 54 receptions for 517 yards with three touchdown catches, along with 117 rushing yards with two scores on the ground.

All-Pro running back Christian McCaffrey has appeared in only three games for Carolina this season and hasn't played since he suffered a shoulder injury in the loss to the Kansas City Chiefs on Nov. 8, but he is expected to return to face the Broncos.

"There’s nothing to make me think he’s not," coach Matt Rhule told reporters about McCaffrey playing.
