Is Chad Ochocinco Johnson trying to send a message to New York Jets’ fans?
At the least, the former six-time Pro Bowl receiver has made them curious.
On March 20, Johnson posted a tweet that posed the idea of receiver Odell Beckham, Jr. joining the Jets.
Using his @ochocinco account, he tweeted an eyes emoji on top of a photoshopped image of Beckham standing on an NFL sideline in the Jets’ black uniform. The New York Giants’ former first-round pick is wearing his signature Jersey No. 13 in the altered photo.
Beckham, who hasn’t played since tearing his ACL during the Rams’ Super Bowl LVI victory, recently held a workout for numerous NFL teams and the Jets were reportedly in attendance.
ESPN’s Dianna Russini reported on March 17 that the Jets are “interested and staying in touch” with Beckham, who was selected to the Pro Bowl during each of his first three NFL seasons with the Giants.
Beckham was attempting to sign with a team for the 2022 season stretch run, but reports suggest that the electrifying pass-catcher was not yet fully recovered from ACL surgery.
In 96 career regular season games with the Giants, Rams and Cleveland Browns, the 5-foot-11 Beckham has made 531 receptions for 7,367 yards and 56 touchdowns.
Outside of Garrett Wilson, Jets’ receivers accounted for modest production in 2022.
Wilson more than doubled up the next best Jets’ wide receiver en-route to securing the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year award. The Ohio State product gained 1,103 receiving yards on 83 catches while starting all 17 games.
Jets’ tight end Tyler Conklin, not a wide receiver, ranked second to Wilson in both receptions (58) and receiving yards (552) on the 2022 team stat sheet.
Gang Green has already taken aim at upgrading its receiving corps, signing former Green Bay Packer Allen Lazard to a four-year free agent contract.
